ETORKINEKIN BAT

History

Barrio de San Francisco en BilbaoEtorkinekin Bat was formed in 1994 as the outcome of a work camp between volunteers and immigrants, who joined forces to facilitate and promote the intermingling of different groups of immigrants and their acceptance into society and onto the labour market; and was constituted as a non-profit association in 1996.

In 1997 we set up our permanent headquarters in Old Bilbao's San Francisco District, which is a strategic place for us because within this small area live the highest number of immigrants in Bizkaia. By being based here we are able to impact the lives of immigrants more directly.

In February 1997 we became founder members of Harresiak Apurtuz, which co-ordinates NGO's that support immigrants in the Basque Country, because, ever since the project began, we have felt it very important to liaise with other associations and to look for ways for us to complement one another and co-operate to our mutual benefit.
